about bts

beginnings

where did they start?
bts is a boy group of three rappers and four vocalists
they debuted in 2013 as a hip hop group under a relatively new, small, and struggling company called Big Hit
in the beginning of their career, they were struck with hate and harsh criticism. they were disregarded, mistreated, and targeted by the general public as well as the kpop industry because they were seen as "nobodies"
a great deal of bts' traction began when people overseas took notice of their talent through their social media and they started to gain an international fanbase
the come up

how did they grow?
as bts started to gain an international fan base, their music started to get some attention
as bts was originally a hip-hop oriented group, they came to america in 2014 to learn more about the culture
it wasn't until 2015, two years after their debut, that they got their first music show win for their song I Need U
this was one of many turning points in bts' trajectory
with each comeback (read: new album/era) bts gained more and more fans both in their home country and overseas
to make a long story short, bts eventually worked their way to the being the biggest name in kpop, and has since begun to conquer the rest of the world as well
achievements

what have they won?
since their debut, bts have consistently grown and won over their audiences with their incredible performances, strong discography, and inspiring message
as a result, they've achieved a great deal of accolades over the years
some examples:
100+ asian music show awardsseveral american music show awardsattending, performing, and being nominated at the GRAMMYsselling out stadiums such as Wembley, Rose Bowl, and Metlife for multiple nights in a rowsetting chart records for Billboard, iTunes, Melon (korean music chart) and many other platformstop social artist on twitter every week for over three years straighthaving the best selling album worldwide in 2020
and sooo much more...
what's next?

what are they doing?
bts may seem like they're already on top of the world, and in a lot of ways they are
however, there is still plenty left for them to achieve and conquer, and still many barriers put up toward them due to contempt, xenophobia, and more obstacles they have always had to face
one thing both bts and ARMYs (bts' fanbase) have expressed a desire to see is bts being recognized by the academy with GRAMMY nominations/awards
but while many ARMYs love to see the numbers, many also simply want to see bts continue to create art that we can connect with
basically, we just want to see whatever they have to offer us. and honestly, when it comes to numbers, ARMYs will handle the rest :)

26 years old

leader, rapper, producer
rm was an underground rapper of about fifteen years old when he was scouted by big hit to join what they planned on being a hip hop group
he is known for being very intelligent and quite wise. as the other members put it, though, he knows a lot of things that most people don't know, but is a bit less adept at other skills (like cooking and driving!)

rapper, producer
suga was a rapper and songwriter/producer before joining bts. growing up, he struggled financially and therefore fought with his parents about his wish to pursue music
he is known for being very calm and relaxed as compared to the other members, and he also isn't afraid to tell it like it is, so he sometimes is attributed a blunt or "savage" image, but that's far from the entirety of his personality — he’s also very caring and cheeky
